Governance Roles

Trustees

The Board of Trustees is the legally accountable body for the Creating Tomorrow Academy Trust. They are responsible to the Secretary of State for Education for making sure each school within the trust is running effectively. Trustees ensure that the trust follows the law and meets the requirements set out in important documents such as the Companies Act, Charities Act, Education Acts, and the Master Funding Agreement.  Trustees manage the trust’s finances carefully, making sure spending is legal, efficient, and provides good value for money.

The Board of Trustees also makes the key decisions for the trust. This includes setting the overall direction, creating policies, and ensuring the trust follows legal and regulatory guidance. They are focused on achieving the goals set out in the trust’s Articles of Association.

Local Governing Boards

To help with local oversight, trustees have set up a Local Governing Board (LGB) for each school. These boards play an important role in shaping school plans, engaging with the local community, and making sure each school stays aligned with the trust’s strategy, values, and vision. This structure allows schools to remain closely connected to their communities, with governors acting as meaningful and valued partners in the life of each school.

Members

Academy trust members are 'guardians' or 'shareholders' who ensure the trust remains effective and adheres to its charitable aims, with a key role in holding the board of trustees accountable. They are separate from the trustees, have minimal involvement in the day-to-day running of the trust, but possess powers to appoint or remove trustees, change the articles of association, and direct the trust board if problems arise. Members are essential for the overall integrity of the trust's governance structure.

Our Governance Structure

Our Board of Trustees has six subcommittees, which report to the full board.

  • Standards
  • Audit and Risk
  • Finance and Resources
  • Human Resources
  • Governance
  • Remuneration

Each school has a Local Governing Board and Creating Tomorrow College has a Board of Directors (it is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Creating Tomorrow Trust). Whilst the college operates separately, the Board of Trustees has oversight of the college's operations.

Further details on our constitution and scheme of delegation, along with our register of interests and meeting attendance records are downloadable at the bottom of this page.
